Short Shaheedi Story
Bhai Nirmal Singh Chohla, a renowned Kavishar in Punjab during the Kharku Movement, was known for his fearless participation in Shaheedi Samagams, where he passionately sang Kavishri that celebrated and supported the Kharku Sikh Movement. His unwavering commitment drew the ire of the Punjab Police and the government, leading to his arrest around 10 to 12 times before his martyrdom. In the final days of August 1991, Bhai Nirmal Singh was arrested by Nachhatar Singh, DSP of Dharamkot, as he was returning from a Samagam by bus. The police stopped the bus, apprehended him, and detained him at the Dharamkot Police Station, where he was brutally tortured until he succumbed to his injuries. After his martyrdom in police custody, his body was callously disposed of in the Satluj River. Bhai Nirmal Singh Chohla never returned home. His wife and four young children anxiously awaited his return that night, but he never came back.
