Short Shaheedi Story
When Bhai Nand Singh Ji was just a child, he was left at the sacred Gurudwara Paonta Sahib. Guided by divine destiny, he was later discovered and came under the care of Ustad Giani Prem Singh Ghuman. Recognizing Bhai Nand Singh Ji’s spiritual inclination and potential, Ustad Ji took him to the Damdami Taksal at Chowk Mehta – a revered Sikh educational institution known for producing dedicated scholars and saint-soldiers of the Khalsa Panth.
There, Bhai Nand Singh Ji fully immersed himself in the life of Gursikhi under the tutelage of senior Taksal leaders. With unwavering discipline, humility, and deep devotion to Guru Granth Sahib Ji, he served in the Damdami Taksal Jatha for the rest of his life. His jeevan (spiritual life) was one of seva (selfless service), simran (meditation), and complete commitment to Sikh principles.
On 6th June 1984, during the Indian Army's assault on Sri Harmandir Sahib (Operation Blue Star), Bhai Nand Singh Ji attained martyrdom while courageously defending the sanctity of the Guru’s house alongside other brave Gursikhs. His supreme sacrifice remains an enduring inspiration for Sikhs across the world, embodying the spirit of Shaheedi (martyrdom) and unshakable faith in Guru Sahib.
