Family Reflections

Other Member Shaheed in Family

Bhai Sangha had four brothers, three of whom were martyred for Khalistan: Shaheed Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Sangha, Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billu (21 June 1992), and Shaheed Bhai Khushdeep Singh Bittu (15 June - 15 July 1993).

Jiwni/Biographic Information

Bhai Balwinder Singh Billu, the younger brother of Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Sangha, was taken away during the Shaheedi Samagam of Bhai Rachpal Singh Chhandra, who had become the leader of the group after Bhai Sangha’s martyrdom. The Ludhiana police abducted him, and since then, he has not been seen or heard from. After his abduction, the family searched tirelessly, visiting police stations across Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran, but were repeatedly denied any involvement by the authorities, who redirected them to other stations. Witnesses informed the family that Ajit Singh Sandhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Punjab Police, Tarn Taran, was directly involved in Bhai Balwinder Singh Billu’s arrest at the Samagam. Despite this information, the family was unable to find any further clues.

Later, in 1995, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra discovered Bhai Balwinder Singh Billu’s name in a list of Sikh youths who were killed in fake encounters by the Punjab Police and subsequently cremated as unidentified bodies.

Bhai Balwinder Singh had filed to contest in the MLA elections in 1991, but the government abruptly canceled the election on the night before the polls.

Similarly, another brother, Khushdeep Singh Bittu, disappeared along with Baba Major Singh under the command of SSP Ajit Singh Sandhu.
