Short Shaheedi Story
Bhai Daljit Singh Bhikhi was apprehended alive by the Dasua Police, tortured severely, and later martyred, falsely claimed to have died in a police encounter. On September 17, police issued a statement to the newspapers, describing an alleged incident from the night of September 15. Around 9:30 p.m., a truck marked with "Kar Sewa" was signaled to stop at a joint checkpoint of the Punjab Police and BSF near the outskirts of Kandhala Jattan village, under the jurisdiction of Tanda police station. The truck, however, ignored the stop signal and sped towards Hoshiarpur. BSF personnel gave chase in their jeeps, and gunfire was reportedly exchanged between the occupants of the truck and the pursuing BSF soldiers. The shootout, according to the police, lasted between five to seven minutes. As the truck continued its flight, the body of a 20-year-old Amritdhari Sikh, identified as Daljit Singh Bhikhi, fell from the back. Bhikhi was allegedly involved in several actions, including the Kagisari incident, shootings in Alavalpur and Duffar, and multiple killings in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, and Jalandhar. A reward of 50,000 rupees was placed on his head. Police claimed that Bhai Kuljit Singh Dhatt (Sarpanch of Ambala Jattan), Bhai Jasbir Singh Sodhi, and Bhai Satpal Singh alias Pally managed to escape on the truck. An AK-47 and three fully loaded magazines were reportedly recovered from Bhikhi's body.
