Short Shaheedi Story

On 12 September 1990, a secret meeting of the AISSF and KCF was held in Jalandhar City. Bhai Sawaran Singh Hamira, along with his companion Bhai Jaswinder Singh, was walking near DAV College, Jalandhar, when a police informant (cat) alerted the authorities. Both Singhs were apprehended by the police. Bhai Sawaran Singh Hamira attempted to consume a cyanide capsule, but it failed to work. The police took him to the 32nd Battalion in Jalandhar, where he was subjected to brutal torture for about three days. Ultimately, the police staged a fake encounter near the riverbank of Nangal Jiwan village in Nakodar Tehsil, District Jalandhar, around 8 PM on 15 September 1990. Even after Bhai Sawaran Singh's martyrdom, the police misled his family about his whereabouts for almost a year before finally disclosing the details of the encounter.
