Short Shaheedi Story
On September 4, 1991, about five to six days after the Jatana Village Massacre, Bhai Balwinder Singh and Bhai Charanjit Singh Channa were intercepted at a checkpoint near Sadhugarh while returning from a meeting in Patiala. They were traveling in a white gypsy with the registration number CH-01 8206. Bhai Jatana used a fake CBI ID, and the police initially allowed them to pass. However, an informer, allegedly Daljit Singh Dalli, revealed their identity, prompting a police chase. The vehicle overturned near Saidpur village, and both men fled into the paddy fields under heavy gunfire. With limited ammunition and severe injuries, Bhai Channa urged Bhai Jatana to escape, but he refused. They chose to die together, consuming cyanide to avoid capture.
