Short Shaheedi Story
On March 5, 1993, Bhai Raminderjeet Singh Tainee and his pregnant wife, Bibi Manjit Kaur, were traveling on a bus from Patiala to Ludhiana when the police stopped the bus near Khanna City. Surrounded by officers, the couple armed themselves and urged the police to allow innocent passengers to leave. Bibi Manjit Kaur shot a policeman, while Bhai Tainee fiercely defended with his AK-47. In a half-hour shootout, several police officers were injured, and the couple, refusing to surrender as their ammunition ran out, chose martyrdom by ending each other’s lives. Their unborn child also attained martyrdom in the tragic encounter.
