Short Shaheedi Story
In early September 1992, Bhai Ranjit Singh Happy and his wife, Bibi Ranbir Kaur Tur, were traveling on a scooter near Adampur. A police van with blacked-out windows, commonly used to conceal police informers, began following them. Sensing danger, Bhai Ranjit Singh tried to escape, steering the scooter towards nearby fields. Both of them fled into a sugarcane field to hide. At that time, neither of them had any weapons to resist or engage in a confrontation. The police soon surrounded the field and arrested them. The couple was taken to the Hoshiarpur Interrogation Center, where they were tortured until death. Despite the brutality, neither revealed any secrets of their jathebandi. Bhai Ranjit Singh Happy recited Gurbani while enduring the torture, and Bibi Ranbir Kaur, chanting "Satnam Waheguru," remained fearless, bearing the inhumane treatment. Eventually, the police staged a fake encounter in the village of Kathar in Jalandhar on September 5, 1992, to cover up their deaths. Afterward, their 3-month-old daughter was abducted by the police from one of their hideouts, and since then, the family has not known her whereabouts or what the police did to her.
