Short Shaheedi Story

Bhai Kanwarjit Singh Sultanwind and Bhai Nirmal Singh Nimma Mianwind were arrested from a rented house behind Satluj Cinema in Jalandhar. At the time of their arrest, the police and CRPF were unaware of their identities. They were all placed in a CRPF Gypsy. After traveling a few yards on the road behind Satluj Cinema, the Gypsy got stuck in city traffic and came to a stop. Bhai Kanwarjit Singh gave a signal to Bhai Nirmal Singh Nimma to attempt an escape. On Bhai Kanwarjit Singh's signal, they both suddenly tried to run from the Gypsy. Bhai Kanwarjit Singh knew that he could never escape because one of his legs had been injured in a prior encounter. He consumed a cyanide capsule, while Bhai Nirmal Singh Nimma was shot by CRPF in a staged ambush. Both attained martyrdom on 18 October 1989.
