Short Shaheedi Story
In May 1988, Bhai Gurjit Singh Jhok Harihar was arrested by the police in Jangpur, Ludhiana, but despite enduring torture, he refused to reveal any information about his fellow Singhs. Offering 80,000 rupees to his guards, he managed to escape and fled to Pakistan. However, the Pakistani agencies were suspicious of him and held him in custody for nearly 18 months before finally releasing him. Upon his return to Punjab, Bhai Sahib rejoined the Kharku Movement. Just days after his return, on November 1, 1991, Bhai Gurjit Singh was arrested again by the Punjab Police and subjected to severe torture. Not wanting a repeat of his previous escape, the police martyred him in a staged encounter near Ludhiana on November 2, 1991. The next morning, his body was cremated by the police at Moga Guest House. Bhai Sahib's martyrdom remains a significant loss for the Sikh nation.
